MACKLEMORE X RYAN LEWIS- OTHERSIDE REMIX FEAT. FENCES

I’ve never particularly been a fan of this genre of rap music, but I’m posting video to help make a point.  The link to Otherside was sent to me by a creative peer, of a similar age, with the comment, “I can’t be believe anybody likes this shit.  It must have been posted by some girl he’s fucking,” underneath it.  It makes me sad that he ignored the songs message, as well as, the extremely well done video that accompanied it out of some sort of notion of hip hop purism.  Chuck D always said, “Write about what you know.”  While this kid isn’t gonna find any space on my iPod anytime soon, he did write a heart felt song about something that he knows about and he was lucky enough to have some shoot a well executed video for it.  We can’t move forward without knowing our past, but we can’t not be tolerant of hip hop that is well crafted even when it comes in a package we might not be used to.

Personally I love this genre of rap and I LOVE this video so much. It’s beautifully shot, and it’s filmed in one of my most favorite places in the pacific northwest.
